The course serves as an introduction to Indian Buddhism, with an emphasis on its doctrinal foundations. We will begin with early Buddhism, its historical and social context, its central doctrines, practices and institutions. We will then survey the Mahāyāna, and deal with the question of its origins and with the theoretical and practical innovations in respect to the conception of Buddhahood and liberation
