Course description

The course examines popular culture and music in China through various historical, social and political perspectives. During the lessons we will reveal and discuss different historical milestones and social transformations that have affected and shaped China’s cultural and musical landscapes since the late 1970s. Then, we will also explore and appreciate the way different musical scenes in China, such as, rock, pop, folk, punk, heavy metal and jazz, as well as other sounds, voices and noises are implicated in its multifaceted cultural arena.
