Course description
The Indian sub continent presents an overwhelming variety and diversity of cultural, social, lingual, religious and political phenomena. What can be identified, if at all, as a common ground among these diverse elements?
Surveying the development of Indian civilizations from its earliest to the formation of the modern Indian state, the course will attempt to critically deal with this question while examining the various ways in which India was represented and imagined through out the ages.
