Course description
Introduction to Japanese History and Culture Instructor:

 Introduction to Japanese History and Culture undertakes a chronological survey of political, economic, social, cultural, religious and intellectual life in Japan from prehistoric times to the present day. Emphasis is placed on both the origin and development of traditional Japanese civilization before the arrival of the "modernizing" West and the subsequent Japanese quest for international acceptance thereafter.

Course Description
The course will focus on and discuss the following broad themes:

1. The formation of early Japanese civilization
2. The era of warriors
3. Japan’s modern experience
4. Japan after WW II
