The Bible is the most translated (and adapted) book in human history. Why? What is the cultural meaning of translating the Bible into a language? What difficulties does it arouse, and how did translators in various times and languages cope with them? What is the difference between a Jewish and a Christian Bible translation? The course will deal with various historical and cultural issues of Bible translations and adaptations in various eras and cultures.
