Course description

In this workshop, we will come to know the various facets of the translator's craft. We will deal with authors and texts representing a wide range of styles, genres and periods, and meet the unique challenges of literary translation from English to Hebrew. We will learn to recognize the linguistic features which result in the low translatability between these two languages. The practical experience will present us with questions relating to the social and cultural contexts of the act of translation - particularly from English and American literature and culture - the consequences of which for our Hebrew translation will be discussed.
