Course description
The seminar will follow Judith Butler’s study of the notion of “representation” and its relations to materiality through close readings of visual representations such as cinema, photography, and paintings. Alongside Butler’s oeuvre, other, related theories – especially those of “visual culture” – will be looked at.
Responsibilities: attending all classes; preparing assigned reading. For a final seminar paper a presentation in class is required.
