Cubism, Futurism, Cubo-Futurism, dada – the Avant-Garde of the first half of the 20th century revolutionized the visual arts and functioned as the “enfant terrible” of Modernist art and literature. As such, it performed at the center of the arena of the critique of the bourgeoisie; nevertheless, already at the time, critical readings exposed its cooptation into the capitalist system and later it was Postmodernism, utilizing Avant-Garde devices as its mark, which sealed the judgment of its predecessor as strong a hegemonic interpellation as Realism has been.
