Course description
Authors use the myth in order to challenge historical and political situations. This course explores how twentieth century German and Austrian women writers, Elfriede Jelinek and Ingeborg Bachmann, Christa Wolf and Anna Seghers among others, shape mythological daughter-figures such as Cassandra, Iphigenia and Antigone or father-figures such as Cronus and Oedipus within poetics that responds to the dilemmas of modernity.
