Course description
From Secular to Profane: Medieval Hebrew Poetry in Italy

Medieval Hebrew poetry in Italy is influenced by three major poetic traditions: the liturgical Hebrew poetry (piyyut) of Eretz Yisrael, the Spanish Andalusian school and the local Italian literary creations. We shall read and discuss various literary forms (poetry and rhyming prose) written in Italy between 9th-15th centuries.
