Course description
The course deals with the grammar of desire and the quest for the sacred in Mediaeval Hebrew poetry. We discuss mainly poems of desire and pieces of the liturgical poetry by Ibn-Gevirol and Halevy that follow a few readings in Song of Songs and Psalms. The seminar studies the theological depth of desire and discusses also its transformation into the world of modern Hebrew writing.
