Course description
The Literature of Yehoshua Kenaz
A monographic course devoted to the literary works of one of the most important Hebrew writers of the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. On the basis of a close reading of Yehoshua Kenaz’s novels and short stories, and a study of its poetic characteristics, we will examine such questions as the representation of childhood, adulthood and old-age, the affiliation of Kenaz’s literature with existential philosophical stands and its critical reflections on “local” matters – institutions and praxes of social constructions and social control, the idea of “home” in private and public contexts etc.
