Course description
Life Cycle in Medieval Hebrew Poems (Life cycle in poems)
The various stages of the life cycle, both of the individual and the congregation, are marked by poems specially composed for those occasions (e.g. birth, circumcision, wedding, mourning the dead etc.). In class we shall learn about these customs and read poems that were performed in public gatherings in and outside of the synagogue.
