Course description
 
The Literary Detective was first seen in London in 1840, in Edgar Poe's "The man of the Crowd". In a few decades time he appeared in many cities and many literatures, until in the beginning of the 20th century he became one of the most consumed Characters in Popular Culture.
The Course will describe the emergence of the Detective story and its evolution through stories and novels by Poe, Collins, Gaboriau, Conan Doyle, Christie, Chandler and others, and will try to investigate concepts such as The literary Genre, its birth and development and its immigration from one literary culture to another.
