Course description

The question that lies at the center of this course is the question of modernity and its influence on the Jewish and Palestinian communities and cultures in Israel and in the world after 1948. This reading in the texts of central Palestinian and Jewish-Israeli authors and intellectuals offers a rethinking of historical, social, cultural and political questions, such as secularism and tradition, political existence, the tension between East and West as well as questions on transformations, mutual influences and intersecting points.

Requirements: Weekly reading of the texts, attendance (20%) and final paper (80%).
