Course description

What happens when artists strive to represent God’s voice? In answer to this question we will read several texts, from the Jewish tradition and from other traditions and cultures. Readings will include the Hebrew Bible, Midrash, Liturgical Poetry (Piyyut), and modern literature. We will also view pieces from the theater and film which deal with similar complexities. The theoretic issues to be discussed will be faith and representation, the sublime, political theology and more.
