Course description
His Sweet Voice – God's Voice in Hebrew Poetry
The course focuses on poems and poetic genres which allow readers to hear God's voice as a dramatic persona. We will begin with God's speech in the book of Job, continue with liturgical medieval poetry which sounds God's voice, and go on to Modern Hebrew poets such as U.Z. Greenberg and Yona Vollach. The reading of the poems will be accompanied by readings in theoretical works of Shoshana Felman, Jacque Derrida and others.
