Course description
The Ben-Kosba war- a revolt and its calamity
Ben-Kosba War was the last national anti-Roman revolt of the Jews of Eretz-Israel. It was prepared and broke out under a unique Jewish consensus. That is why also its consequences were the most severe for the Jews in Eretz-Israel in antiquity. In a sharp contrast to its historical importance/value the sources about this war are very few and poor. During the seminar we shall try to trace the reasons for the war, the Jewish preparations, the first success, the Roman reaction and tactics, and both immediate and long-term consequences.
