Course description
The Struggle over Memory – Holocaust Consciousness in Israel in 1950s
This course will explore the formation of Holocaust consciousness in Israel in the first decade of its existence and its impact on the Israeli society and the establishment.  It will analyze the perceptions of various groups in Israeli society and their influence on Holocaust commemoration in the formative years of the state. The following issues, among others, will be discussed: the encounter between Israelis and survivors of the Holocaust, the public debate over questions of resistance and collaboration; commemoration and museums in Israel, the memorial day; the Kasztner Trial" and the Eichmann Trial.
