Course description
The Struggle on Hegemony in the “Yishuv” and Zionist Movement, 1925-1952
The course will analyze the struggle between the two main ideological and political camps in the “Yishuv” and early days of the state – the Revisionist movement and the Labor movement. The course’s focus will be the competition and conflict between them to achieve hegemony in the Zionism movement both in Palestine and abroad. Among issues to be discussed during the course will be volunteering for the Jewish Legion, the controversy about staying in Tel-Hai, the attitude toward military force within the national movement, Zionism’s political goals, Arlozoroff’s murder, the period’s poetry, the “Sezon”, the “Altalena” affair, the Reparations Agreement.
Course duties: Participation, reading the syllabus, small work, exam.
