The heroic generations of Rome: Readings in Livy’s Ab Urbe Condita
Students will read, in the original Latin, Livy’s portraits of several great figures of the Early and Middle Republic, to appreciate Livy’s use of exempla to convey his own ethical approach to history, with the implicit contrast to his own difficult times.
