Stories of Love in Ovid

Students will read passages from Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Amores dealing with love; attention will be paid not only to Ovid’s nuanced use of language, but also to his exploration of the psychological and emotional interior of people in love. Students will be expected to prepare an assigned text for every meeting, and write a seminar paper at the end of the course.

Attendance and participation in class: 55%; seminar paper: 45%.
