Demosthenes, On the Crown
A third-year Greek seminar (prose). The seminar will introduce the students to what was justly defined as “the greatest speech of the greatest orator in the world” (Encyclopaedia Britannica). Written at one of the the turning points in Greek history and since then an inseparable part of the curriculum, On the Crown (330 BCE) is one of the foremost representatives of Greek periodical prose.
