Course description

Medicine in Classical Antiquity: Ideas, Personae, and Institutions

In this pro-seminar we will examine central themes in the history of medicine from the fifth century BCE and well into late antiquity. We will be particularly interested in the transformation of medicine into a discipline and a profession, and the inter-relations between medicine and religion.

Prerequisites: none.

Grading: participation and attendance (10%), final paper (90%).
