Professions constitute important factors of identity. However, not all occupations gain the status of recognized professions. The seminar deals with the construction of identity as part of professionalization processes and the accumulation of prestige in different occupation types, and the role of the practitioners’ socio-cultural baggage in these processes. This, with a special focus on semi-professional fields, which are regarded as marginal and underrated.

Students obligations: surveying theoretical literature and taking part in discussions of the reading materials; conducting a small-scale pilot study and reporting it at class meetings; submitting a written final report.
