Course description
“People Talk in Everyday Life” (Seminar)
The study of everyday natural talk (i.e., spoken rather than written discourse) is an emerging field of study as part of the broader field of discourse analysis. The seminar focuses on questions of identity work, presentation of self and signalizing social relations through Talk. It discusses central theories in conversation analysis, social linguistics, discursive psychology, and narrative research, and deals with basic methodological problems of interviewing, transcribing and analyzing spoken discourse.
