Rhetoric is the art of oration and this is its origin. Yet, during the history of western culture the discussion concerning the nature of rhetoric was expanded to general questions about the relation between thinking and language, between persuasion and truth and between rhetoric and ethics.
We will discuss these questions by referring to central views in the history of rhetoric from ancient Greece to our time.
