Course description

The course presents the patterns of humanistic thought as developed throughout the history of ideas. We will analyze these patterns with an emphasis on philosophy, from Ancient times, through the Middle Ages and the Modern era to the twentieth century. We will review the fields of research in the humanities from methodological and the thematic point of view, and we will examine the similarities and differences between the humanities and the other sciences. Among other subjects we will speak about social sciences, natural sciences, exact sciences and economics.

Students will become familiar with the basic patterns of thought that control the development of science, learn about basic concepts such as truth, certainty, meaning and faith, recognize their logical aspects, and learn to apply them in our lives. In this sense, the students will acquire an analytical ability that can be used in both theoretical and practical spheres.
