Course description

Course Description

The course goal is to get the student familiar with books and texts that influenced the initial stages of Islam including the Quran- the primary source of Islam and the Hadith- the early Islamic tradition. The student will acquire basic skills in research and analysis of early Islamic texts and learn how to use modern research literature. These skills will be practiced on a weekly basis through a weekly exercise and a final assignment. This course is complementary to the main course “Basic concepts in Islam”.

Course Requirements

The course is a textual exercise of the material covered in the main course “Basic concepts in Islam” with Dr. Aliza Shnizer.

Class attendance is mandatory.

Every week the student will submit an assignment covering one of the branches of the Islamic literature. Towards the end of the semester a test will be held covering the subjects learned in the course. At the end of the semester, an assignment will be given summarizing the skills learned in the course.

Students are required to follow the messages and content presented in the course’s Moodle website.
