Course Description:
The course is an introduction to articulatory phonetics and acoustic phonetics.
In the domain of articulatory phonetics, the principles for the categorization of sounds in the world's languages according to features will be discussed and phonetic transcription according to the IPA will be taught. In the field of acoustic phonetics, the various acoustic characteristics of different sounds will be presented, and the acoustic analysis of sounds will be taught.
The theoretical studies will be accompanied by practical exercise in transcription.

Course Requirements:
• 6-8 written assignments. Assignments not submitted will get a 0 grade. Students with two or more 0 grades will not be able to take the written exam.
• Keeping up-to-date with assignments and information on course website
• Transcription exam
• Final written exam

Grade:
• Final written exam – 70%
• Written assignments – 20%
• Transcription exam – 10%
• Students are required to get at least 60% in the final written exam in order to complete the course.

Note, there may be some changes in the course syllabus. The final syllabus will be published towards the beginning of the semester.
