Short Course Description

The aim of the introduction is to intruduce an elementary knowledge on the history of Sub-Saharan Africa. The meetings are organized by chronological order, and will encompass two main time units: Pre-colonial Africa and Africa in the colonial period (up to the 1960s). The course will focus on reviewing and analyzing the history African kingdoms and segmentary societies, traditional religions, Islam and Christianity, slavery and slave-trade, the colonial occupation and de-colonization struggles.
By studying these historical periods, the students will get a solid basis for understanding current developments at the African continent. Most of the reading will be in Hebrew, and it will be followed by watching short videos, documentaries and fictional films.
