This course will examine questions concerning urban development, social and economic changes and the impact of environmental changes on life in North Africa. The course will also explore the topic of migration from North and Sub-Saharan Africa to Europe, situating this process in other developments Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia have experienced in recent decades. The course will examine these events through the prism of environmental history, and discuss how compatible these theories are with the reality of 21st century North Africa.
