Course description
Protests and revolutions have stirred up the Middle East over the past century. The culture of revolution and the revolutionary dynamics caused complex and fascinating periods in the history of the region. The course deals with various cases of revolution in the Middle East - mainly military coups and the Islamic revolution in Iran - and aims to determine the characteristics of a Middle Eastern revolution. This by emphasizing the uniqueness of each case and the context in which they occured. The second part of the course deals with a comparative look on the revolutions of the 21st century which recenly took place in the region and provide partial insight in the new way of revolution in the Middle East.
