Course description
The central events and themes in Christianity from the end of the Middle Ages until today: how did the religion adapt to social and intellectual changes while still serving the shifting needs of society. From the attempts at change between the 14th and 16th centuries, through the Protestant Reformation, the Roman Catholic Counter-Reformation, the influence of the Enlightenment on rational conceptions of religion as opposed to emotional responses, and concluding with modern religious extremism in our own time
