Course description
The purpose of the course is to critically examine the role of cinema in our understating of the recent past. From the Dreyfus affair to the formation of mass democracy, to the First World War, the industrial automatization, the spread of communism, the rise of Fascism and Nazism, the Cold War and decolonization.
Our century is a stage for history turned to drama. These dramatic productions have fashioned and still continue to fashion our images and conceptions in the main sites of 'collective memory'. During the course we will watch parts from great and influential films.
