Course description
Abstract: This course examines gender in Middle Eastern societies by examining central related issues. From a criticizing approach, it reviews various discourses, notions, ideologies and social practices, generally and by focusing in specific cases. Orientalism, postcolonialism, patriarchy, religious perceptions, national projects and nationality, modernization, state, citizenship, feminisms and women’s movements, family, sexuality regime, gender identities, power and resistance compose the core range of issues that the course examines them as gendered in the one hand, and through which it examines gender, in the other hand.
