Stress tensor. Transformation rule. Principal directions and stresses. Stress equations. Strain. Compatibility equations. Hooke’s law. Isotropy. Definition of elasto-static problems. Two-dimensional problems for planar stresses, Airy functions. Polar co-ordinates. Hollow cylinders under internal and external pressure. Axial tension of a thin-shell with a hole. Rotating discs. Stress concentrations. Concentrated force on half-plane. Thermo-elasticity.
