Prerequisites: Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics (1).
 
Definitions of concentration, concentrations at interfaces, Ficks law. Diffusion in dilute solutions: steady diffusion, transient diffusion, heterogeneous catalysis. Mass convection: analogy between heat and mass convection, interface mass transfer, simultaneous heat and mass transfer processes. Models for diffusion coefficients. Diffusion in concentrated solutions: definitions of velocities and fluxes, “generalized” mass balances. Convection induced by diffusion. Thermal diffusion. Forced diffusion. Mass exchangers. Introduction to separation processes.
