Course description:
The course deals with advanced topics in the nonlinear and inelastic mechanics of composite materials and structures. At the material level, it includes nonlinear micromechanical methods such as simplified average methods, incremental Mori-Tanka, Method of Cells and its higher-order refinements. Micromechanics with nonlinear three-dimensional (3D) constitutive implementations will be covered with a computational perspective, such as deformation theory, incremental plasticity, hyperelasticity, nonlinear viscoelasticity and continuum damage. At the structural level, coverage will include nonlinear geometrical effects, such as post-buckling of composite beams and plates along with multi-scale finite element modeling of composite structures.
