Prerequisite: Energy Conversion
Mechanics of drive systems: Mechanical characteristics of mechanisms and electric machines, motion equation, forces and torques in drive systems, translation of static torques and moment of inertia to a single axis, determination of starting and breaking times. DC and AC machines: Mechanical characteristics, starting, breaking and speed regulation. Sizing electric machines: Heating and coding of machines, machines for continuous, periodic and short time loads, methods for sizing electric machines, effect of cooling type, ambient temperature and height on machine sizing.
