Prerequisites: Digital Logic Systems; Data Structures and Algorithms; C Programming
The course provides a basic introduction to computer organization, and requires students to carry out one software project and one hardware project. The software project deals with assembly language and is to be implemented in C. The hardware project will implement a basic computer system using the Arduino kit.
Lecture topics are as follows. Computer components; Instruction Set Architecture: model and assembly language; assemblers and linkers; binary arithmetic; I/O; CPU organization; memory hierarchy; parallelism.
