The Advanced Organic Laboratory Course includes multistep step syntheses of organic compounds through the use of organometalic reagents such as Grignard and Wittig reagents, liquid ammonia, hydride and catalytic hydrogenations, syntheses of heterocyclic compounds, optical resolution of chiral synthetic products, photochemistry and isolation of natural products. The laboratory practice is coupled with advanced literature search techniques and active use of analytical methods such as: GC-MS, MS, NMR, IR, UV melting point and optical rotation measurement.
