Course description
  • Principle of quantum theory: Matter waves, Schrodinger equation, wave function, operators, uncertainty principle, postulates
  • Solution of the Schrodinger equation: Particle in a box, free electron model for polyenic molecules, harmonic oscillator, rigid rotor, hydrogen atom
  • Atoms: Variational principle, Helium atom, many-electron atoms, electron spin, fermions and Pauli principle
  • Diatomic molecules: Born-Oppenheimer approximation, electronic and nuclear Schrodinger equations, molecular orbitals, valance bond
  • Polyatomic molecules: MO-LCAO, Hückel model
