  • Basic concepts – physical quantities, units, atoms, molecules, chemical equations, stoichiometry
  • Atomic structure – nucleus, isotopes, hydrogen atom, Bohr model, photons, hydrogen spectrum, particle-wave duality
  • Atoms – Wave functions, quantum numbers, atomic orbitals
  • Periodic table – ionization energies, atomic radii, electron affinity, electronegativity, properties of the elements
  • Chemical bond – Lewis structures and covalent bonds, resonance, exceptions, molecular geometry, bond order, valence and hybridization, molecular orbitals in diatomic molecules
  • Gas laws – pressure, partial pressure, Boil law, Charle’s law, ideal gases, non-ideal gases.
    Thermochemistry – heat, calorimetry, work, first law of thermodynamics, enthalpy & internal energy, Hess’s Law
    Liquids, solids, and intermolecular forces – liquids, vapor pressure, critical points, phase diagrams, Clausius-Clapeyron equations
  • Properties of solutions – molarity, enthalpy of solution formation, solubility of gases, solution mixtures, osmotic pressure, Henry’s law, Raoult’s law
