Tourism and recreation are among the fastest growing industries today. The course will examine this field from a geographical perspective that seeks to better understand how space and place affect and are affected by these industries in both the global and local levels. Main topics that will be reviewed include: Introduction to the main theories and terminology in the field of tourism and recreation, tourism and leisure in cities, tourism mobility, location of tourism infrastructure, tourism and urban development, tourism and inequality at the local and global levels, leisure activity and healthy lifestyle, smart destinations.
