Tourism and recreation are among the fastest growing industries today. The course will examine this field from a geographical perspective that seeks to better understand how space and place affect and are affected by these industries in both the global and local levels. Main topics that will be reviewed include: Introduction to the main theories and terminology in the field of tourism and recreation, tourism and leisure in cities, tourist mobility, location of tourist infrastructure, tourism and urban development, tourism and inequality at the local and global levels, environmental and socail impact of tourism on destinations, sustainable tourism and smart destinations.
