Course description

In this course are presented the basic principles of four potential geophysical fields:
gravity, magnetic, thermal and self-potential (spontaneous polarization) and
methods of their application. Description of these geophysical fields includes the
following main items: (1) main physical fundamentals, (2) review of physical
properties, (3) methodologies of geophysical data acquisition (land, air, marine,
borehole and underground), (4) introducing different corrections and reductions,
(5) utilization of filtering and transformation procedures; calculation of derivatives;
correlation method, (6) inverse problem solution, (7) direct problem solution,
(8) relation between the potential fields themselves and their relation with seismic
methods. Numerous case histories illustrate searching hydrocarbons, ore deposits
and fresh water, studying of deep structure, geophysical-geological mapping and
near-surface applications. Diverse home works allowing students to accept
theoretical material in the best way supporting practically all lecture material.
