Syllabus

Particle Physics II

Avner Soffer

The course focuses on particle physics measurements and how they tell us about the

standard model and physics beyond the SM.

• LHC physics

o LHC parameters, characteristics of hadron collisions

       o ATLAS detector

      o Motivation for TeV physics

o SUSY concepts and analysis examples

o Higgs physics, Higgs couplings, searches for new scalars

• Flavor physics

o High-scale sensitivity of flavor physics

o Baryon asymmetry of the universe

o The CKM matrix, CP violation in the standard model

       o CP violation measurements

       o Meson mixing

• Neutrino physics

o Solar neutrino deficit, Super-Kamiokande and SNO experiments

o Neutrino oscillations theory, quantum-measurement considerations

         o Long-baseline and reactor experiments

          o CP violation

          o Right-handed neutrinos

In addition, we will use many papers, particularly on experimental results.
