Course description

Recap of basic notions (weeks 1-3): including ladder operators, coherent states, and Feynman path integrals.

Quantization of fields (weeks 4-7): bosonic creation and annihilation operators, the elastic field and phonons, the electromagnetic field and photons, absorption, radiation, and scattering of photons.

Second quantization of many-body systems (weeks 8-11): fermionic creation and annihilation operators, systems of interacting fermions and bosons, canonical transformations, electron pairing and the BCS theory of superconductivity.

Relativistic quantum mechanics (weeks 12-13): the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations.
