This Ph.D. seminar is intended to enhance students' ability to more critically evaluate management and business research and to develop skills in the evaluation and review of such research. Additionally, by placing the student in the role of reviewer, the course is also intended to enhance students' understanding of what reviewers tend to look for in the manuscripts that students might submit to refereed journals or funding agencies in the organizational sciences. The course begins with a discussion of what "good" theory is and how one may evaluate it. The course also examines the key role played by construct conceptualization and validity, as well as a assessment of hypothesis-design fit, methodology, and interpretation. Following the introduction, each student will be assigned a paper to review and will present this review to his/her colleagues.
